What The Deck! – PORTA by Ambarrukmo

What The Deck! is the rooftop bar of PORTA by Ambarrukmo, the urban lifestyle hotel on Jalan Colombo in Caturtunggal, on the north-east side of Yogyakarta. Up on the 11th floor, it bills itself as a sky beer garden, and the glass-walled bar and terrace look out across the low rooftops of the city, which the Ambarrukmo group rates as one of the best city views in Jogja.

The feel is relaxed and casual rather than dressy. The bar pours beer, wine and spirits alongside cocktails, with appetisers and bar snacks to share, and the space is laid out with a long bar counter, communal tables and lounge corners for groups. There is a weekly programme of live music and events, so evenings tend to be livelier than the hotel lobby below.

It opens from 4pm until midnight on weekdays and until 1am at weekends, which makes it a good spot for a sunset drink before dinner. It holds around 50 people, so it is worth calling ahead for a group table on Friday and Saturday nights.
